Building capacity in the professional work force to develop, implement and evaluate programmes on physical activity is of high importance. As is the need to develop a strong research community to support the development and testing of new interventions and further our understanding of the benefits and issues related to physical activity.
In recent years IUHPE / CDC has developed an international course on Physical Activity and Public Health based on a successful model run as a national course in the USA since 1996.
The International Physical Activity and Public Health course has been run in South America under the leadership of Agita Mundo, the RAFA PANA network and CELAFISCS and in the Asia Pacific regions under the leadership of XXXXX and in partnership with the Ministry of Health and WHO Regional Office. A course is under development for the African Region in 2007.
